Doug Harrison Electronic Press Kit

Blending his backgrounds in classical and jazz double bass performance, Doug Harrison is inspired by the experiences that bring people together to celebrate humanity. A double bassist, Doug has been honing his craft for the past 16 years, playing professionally in the Triad Piedmont region of North Carolina and New England. Currently based in Boston, Doug is a Master's student at the Berklee College of Music in the prestigious Berklee Global Jazz Institute.

Growing up in Belmont, Massachusetts playing woodwinds, Doug entered college as a tenor saxophone major. As a sophomore, he fell in love with the double bass and has not looked back since. Graduating from Guilford College as a double bass major in 2010, he quickly became a first call bassist for local jazz musicians in and around Greensboro, NC. He was the principal bassist of the Greensboro Philharmonia in 2012, and still maintains a love of symphonic music, performing as a section bassist with the New Philharmonia in Newton, MA.

Doug has played in styles including contemporary jazz, bebop, funk, indie, rock, classical music, to name a few. He has performed with singers/songwriters, hip hop artists, and poets and aspires to learn from a variety of artists over the course of his career to understand and embrace the bassist’s role in their culture’s music.

Doug has studied with luminaries such as Linda May Han Oh, John Patitucci, Danilo Perez, Nicholas Payton, Joe Lovano, and Ben Street.

Committed to a lifelong study of his craft (and to help others do the same), Doug has worked as an instructor on the double bass and bass guitar. He was also a music educator for the city of Greensboro, NC in the music department of a Multicultural Arts Center.

Outside of music, Doug pursued a successful 10- year career as a fine wine sales person. He was salesperson of the year for his organization, and was able to travel the world’s premier wine regions on four continents. He has a deep passion for cooking, and if he is not performing at night, you will find him at home trying a new recipe.
